THE TRUTH IS

The truth is, I know how to be alone,

I am very practiced and good at it.

I like my own company just fine, thank you.

I amuse myself quite well.

It’s hard to be with other people,

Constantly on guard checking the temperature of their moods

And trying to dress accordingly for the unpredictable storms.

But the truth is, my heart longs for the someday you.

Making space, caring for you, and seeing to your comfort as I’m able-

Carrying meals, steaming pots of tea, watching peace seep deep into your beautiful face.

Tell me a story while I play my guitar, hum melodies and love back to me.

These are the sweet dreams of hope I carry, alone into each new day.
